Landed in Mexico City, the travel eSIM installed fine and showed bars for about a minute, then dropped to “No Service” and stayed there. The plan was active, the APN was correct, and a reboot did nothing.
What fixed it, in this order:
- Turned off “Allow Mobile Data Switching”. The phone kept falling back to the home line, and the travel profile never registered properly while it did.
- Set network selection to manual and picked the second carrier on the list instead of the first.
- Updated the carrier settings, which arrived as an iOS prompt only after the phone had a data connection over hotel Wi-Fi.
My guess is that the automatic selection was latching onto a network the roaming agreement did not fully cover. Manual selection has been stable for four days now, including a trip to Puebla.
The manual network pick is the one people skip. Automatic selection re-tries the same rejected network every time you toggle airplane mode.
